Farrell told his penis is smaller than McGregor's

07.29.04 (10:19 am)   [edit]
Colin Farrell is stunned at the amount of attention his penis has received in his upcoming movie A home at the end of the world - because he's been told it's much smaller than Ewan McGregor's.

The Phone booth star's full-frontal nude shot was recently pulled from the film, after it proved to be too distracting for test screening audiences.

And while reports have deemed Farrell's manhood "big", the Irish heart-throb admits it really isn't anything to get too excited about - especially compared to McGregor, who flashed his manhood most recently in Young Adam.

Madonna makes the "red string" trendy?

NOW AT TARGET...GO FIGURE!

A centuries-old spiritual tool used by Kabbalists, this red string is believed to protect against the evil eye, a negative energy source. What makes this particular piece of string so special is, in part, the fact that it has traveled to Israel, to the ancient tomb of Rachel the Matriarch, and returned, imbued with the essence of protection...

Democrats hush everyone on gay marriage except Kerry's daughter

07.28.04 (3:10 am)   [edit]
Speakers at the podium of the Democratic National Convention are being gagged when it comes to gay marriage. Top party officials and campaign aides said that not only has gay marriage been yanked from the party's official platform, but speakers will be vetted to make sure they steer clear of pro-gay-marriage rhetoric. "You don't have to have a platform that itemizes issue after issue like a New York telephone book," explained national party secretary Alice Germond. Right. New York Post

No one told this to John Kerry's younger daughter, Vanessa, however. She stood her ground, supporting gay marriage even as the Democrats are trying to sidestep the issue on the convention floor. "To be fair - I've been on the record about it - I personally believe in gay marriage," Vanessa Kerry volunteered at a reporters' breakfast. "And he believes in civil unions, which is still equal rights under the law," said Vanessa, who sat next to her sister, Alexandra. She added: "I respect his opinion enormously ... but if you want to get into the semantics of it, that's it."

Bush Introduces Homo Alert System

07.26.04 (2:29 am)   [edit]
=http://www.gaywired.com/artic... target=_blank [image]gaynewengland_1116 078434.jpg[/image]

By Anna Nymous

President Bush on Thursday announced the creation of a new alert system that will allow the country to know current risk levels of homosexuality at any given time. The system will coordinate risk factors with current US intelligence to determine the level of risk homosexuals pose to modern civilization as we know it.
Masterminded by Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter, Mary, working in collaboration with Newt Gingrich's lesbian sister, and Ronald Reagan's gay son, the program will access the latest cultural trends and factor in the gay agenda, making all Americans aware of the current status of homosexuality within our borders. Also helping with the project were Jenna and Barbara Bush, the President's twin daughters, but only that one time when they were really really drunk

Recent success of television shows like "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," "The L Word," "Will & Grace," and "Queer as Folk" have put our current risk level at Orange Alert... don't drop the soap. President Bush issued a press release warning the country to keep their boxers on frontwards in the face of this impending danger that threatens the very fabric of our survival as a species.. Also putting America at risk is the stubborn insistence of some big city mayors to uphold the US Constitution by administering gay weddings across the country, despite public outcry from mostly frumpish, oftentimes divorced, disgruntled straight voters who can't bear to see anyone happy.

Last week on an episode of Pat Robertson's The 700 Club, Reverend Jerry Falwell blamed the terrorist bombing in Madrid, Spain on gay weddings happening here, right now, in America. Falwell has endorsed Bush's Homo Alert System because “it will make God loving normal people aware of their sinful c&*# licking and c#$& sucking neighbors.”

"And by the way," Falwell added, "Spain is full of a bunch of fags. The Bible says so."

Bush Anti-Gay Stand Not Resonating With Voters

07.26.04 (2:25 am)   [edit]
A new survey of voters in Florida, the nation's largest swing state, and one of the most important battlegrounds for control of the White House, shows that voters are not rallying to the President's anti-gay campaign.

Only 2 percent of likely Florida voters named same-sex marriage as an important issue in the election, according to a poll for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel and Florida Times-Union that was released on Sunday.

Bush, who has made a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage a campaign issue, appears to be losing many of the moderate, independent voters of Florida who could make a decisive difference in a close election.

The poll also showed that John Kerry has taken a slight lead in the state.

When asked to name the most important issue determining their vote for president, the largest number, 26 percent, named jobs and the economy. The second most important issue was Iraq, named by 16 percent of eligible voters.

Why did they cut the penis scene?

07.22.04 (5:06 am)   [edit]
Colin Farrell, Dallas Robers talk about playing lovers
Most of what you've heard about "A Home at the End of the World" is that they had to cut a frontal nude scene because the audience became mesmerized by Colin Farrell's assets. But wait; there's more. Actor Dallas Roberts, who spends a few scenes kissing Farrell, says, "I look forward to a time that it's not an issue anymore and when people can ask me not what it's like to play a gay man, but what it's like to play a great character." Farrell talks about his role: "Bobby could move back to New York and if he met a girl who rocked his world, he'd be with her and if he met a boy who rocked his world, he'd be with him. Again, you can call that bisexual, of course, but ... if you said to him, 'You're bisexual,' he'd think you were talking about purchasing sex. He just exists."

The H2 is a polluter. Based on G.M.'s optimistic claim that it gets13 mpg, an H2 will produce 3.4 metric tons of carbon emissions in a typical year, nearly double that of G.M.'s Chevrolet Malibu sedan.

The H2 is a death machine. You'd better hope that you don't collide with an H2 in your economy car. You can kiss your ass goodbye thanks to the H2's massive weight and raised bumpers. Too bad you couldn't afford an urban assault vehicle of your own. Or could you...?

The H2 is a tax loophole. [b]Under Bush's new tax plan, business owners can deduct the entire cost of their $55,000 H2. If you are in the highest tax bracket, that's a tax savings of nearly $20,000! [/b]The government rewards you more savings for buying an H2 than you'd get for buying an electric car.

There's a Republican crashing the Democratic party in Massachusetts:[b] Gov. Mitt Romney.[/b]

From his statehouse office just a half-mile from the sports arena where Democrats will nominate John Kerry, Romney is doing what he can to help President Bush -- from calling for Kerry to resign from the Senate while he seeks the presidency to campaigning for Bush across the country.

"In contrast to other Massachusetts Republicans,'' says Democratic state Sen. Jarrett Barrios, "Governor Romney is a dyed-in-the-wool conservative.''

Romney isn't the typical Bay State Republican, a fiscal conservative and social moderate or liberal. For example, he supported abolishing bilingual education and appointed a commission to draft a "scientific'' death penalty plan. He is practically the GOP's national spokesman against gay marriage, an issue that riles conservatives everywhere.

Much to his consternation, thousands of same-sex couples have taken out marriage licenses in Massachusetts since May. He testified in June before a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, supporting a constitutional ban on gay marriage.

"It is not possible for the issue to remain solely a Massachusetts issue, it must now be confronted on a national basis,'' Romney told senators, and contended that same-sex marriage "may affect the development of children and thereby future society as a whole.''

His high-profile stand against gay marriage not only fosters his conservative credentials, it appears to be part of a carefully crafted national profile that leads some to wonder whether he is looking beyond the governor's office he has occupied only since 2002.

Romney, 57, grew up with maids, a cook and a laundress in the family home in Bloomfield Hills, an exclusive Michigan suburb outside Detroit. His father, George Romney, was chairman of American Motors Corp. and later a three-term governor of Michigan.

GOP LOSING ITS SWING

07.16.04 (5:22 am)   [edit]
=http://www.gaynewengland.net target=_blank [image]gaynewengland_3772 16991.jpg[/image]

[b]July 16, 2004 -- [/b]

THE gay-marriage amend ment that failed Wednesday was never meant to win votes in the Senate — its target was always swing states with large Catholic populations such as Ohio and Michigan.

Perhaps, however, the Republican Party should be thinking a bit harder about swing voters. By again racing ahead to claim the mantle of the Party of Bigotry (it almost got away from them there for a bit), the GOP is doing permanent damage to itself among the gay-friendly, socially liberal younger generation.

This may all seem very clever to Karl Rove: Anti-gay marriage amendments (meant to boost anti-gay turnout) are on the fall ballot in about a dozen states, including battlegrounds such as Michigan and Oregon.

And it may even work for Bush in November.

But the Republican Party is up against an identity crisis, and independent-minded younger voters are going to be quite interested to see which is the GOP's true face:

* Is it Sen. Rick Santorum (Pa.), who has publicly stated that the government should be able to regulate all forms of consensual sex?

* Is it Sen. Wayne Allard (Colo.), the lead sponsor of the Federal Marriage Amendment, who claims that homosexuals have a "master plan" to "destroy the institution of marriage"?

* Or is it the more tolerant George Bush of 2000, when he introduced the phrase "compassionate conservatism"?

The Republican Party plainly wants people to believe that it is the last. At the convention, it's trotting out such friendly faces as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Rudy Giuliani for the prime-time speaking spots.

But the Santorums and the Allards will be skulking in the shadows.

While the GOP tries to swing both ways in this election, its leadership may well come to realize that gay marriage was the wrong territory on which to plant their flag.

Polling clearly shows a generation gap here. While 75 percent of Americans over the age of 64 oppose gay marriage, according to a poll NPR commissioned from a bipartisan team, only 45 percent of those aged 18 to 29 oppose it.

And civil unions — opposed 49 percent to 42 percent in the country as a whole — enjoy solid support from those under 40.

The Republicans have put themselves on the wrong side of a generation gap. And it won't be easily papered over as today's young voters age into older voters — who are more likely to show up at the polls.

When it's one of your first presidential elections — as it is for me — it's no trivial matter that voting Republican means a vote for a party catering to the worst prejudices about our brothers, sisters, friends from high school, college roommates, co-workers, bosses, drinking buddies and the like.

I'm not sure I can do it. And, if it weren't for the War on Terror, I know few for whom it would even be a question.

The Republican Party, under Bush, has stopped standing for fiscal responsibility and small government (see "Medicare bill"), it has stopped standing for free trade (see "steel tariffs") and it has stopped standing for free speech (see "campaign-finance reform").

So, what's left?

The War on Terror might cut it this time around. But if the GOP wants to attract members of the younger generation in years to come, it will have to realize that the new millennium is here, it's queer, and, well . . . we're used to it.

Five years ago, a picture of Britney Spears grabbing some guy's crotch would elicit fantasies suitable only for the most depraved of horny teenagers. Nowadays though, all it does is remind everybody of just how far Britney Spears has fallen. I'm just waiting for her to pull a Courtney Love and start walking around public topless, drink in one hand, cigarette in the other. She's got the skank whore part down, all she needs now is to get hooked on some drugs.

Anti-Gay Amendment Failed!

07.14.04 (9:47 am)   [edit]
The Senate handed President George W. Bush a humiliating defeat Wednesday by rejecting a bid to amend the US Constitution to ban gay marriage.

But, the issue may not be entirely dead. The House is moving towards a fall vote on its own version of an amendment.

Today's vote was not on the proposed amendment itself but on a procedural motion called cloture. When Republicans earlier this week realized they did not have the two-thirds vote needed to pass the amendment they submitted a second amendment which supporters said would leave the door open to giving some rights to gay couples.

Democrats balked saying Republicans could not have it both ways and refused to allow the second measure to be considered.

In an effort to get a vote on both versions of the amendment the GOP invoked cloture to limit debate, in essence removing the possibility of a filibuster.

The Republican Party was deeply divided on the amendment and the Senate leadership was unable to muster the simple majority needed for cloture. The vote kills the amendment effort in the Senate which would have required a two thirds majority to pass.

The hours leading to the vote were filled with emotional and at times angry debate.

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill) said Republicans were trying to "change the subject" of the election away from the war in Iraq and the economy.

"Gay bashing, plain and simple," charged Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.)
But Republicans pressing for the amendment were adamant.

"I would argue that the future of our country hangs in the balance because the future of marriage hangs in the balance," said Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) "Isn't that the ultimate homeland security, standing up and defending marriage?"

New England Senators Form Coalition On Gay Marriage

07.13.04 (3:10 am)   [edit]
New England's 12 senators span the political spectrum, from Massachusetts´ liberal lion to the more conservative thinkers in New Hampshire, but they are finding a common ground on one of the political season's most contentious issues: gay marriage.

At least four of the region's five Republicans will join the six Democrats and one Independent and vote against the proposed constitutional amendment banning gay marriage this week. Only one, Sen. John Sununu (R-N.H.), was still undecided, and calls to his office Monday were not returned.

Bonding the New England legislators is a sense that while most don't support gay marriage, they say it does not belong in the U.S. Constitution and is an issue for the states, not the federal government, to decide.

Congress is about to vote on amending the U.S. Constitution to deny marriage equality to same-sex couples.

Never before has our Constitution been amended to take away anyone's rights. Yet our Senators will vote on this amendment in the next 48 hours.

It's urgent that we speak up now. This hateful divisiveness has no place in America. Please join me in saying so, at:

Equality in marriage is the civil rights issue of our generation. We can't let anyone, or any group, be singled out for discrimination based on who they are or who they love.

Thank you.

GOP Deeply Divided On Gay Marriage

07.12.04 (3:20 am)   [edit]
(Washington) [b]The wife of Vice President Dick Cheney [/b]Sunday said she believes that the issue of gay marriage should be left up to the states. Her remarks Sunday, on CNN's Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer, put her at odds with her husband and the Bush administration and exemplifies the fractures within the GOP over amending the Constitution.

You Go Girl! Lowell Janitor Hits It Big!

07.10.04 (6:26 am)   [edit]
A 67-year-old retired janitor from Lowell who has spent much of her working life picking up after others walked away yesterday with the largest lottery jackpot in state history.

Dressed in a peach and yellow shirt bought especially for the occasion, Geraldine "Gerry" Williams burst into tears after lottery officials handed her a ceremonial oversized check for $294 million at Massachusetts Lottery headquarters in Braintree.

"I don't know what it is to have money," Williams said, biting her lip nervously before a phalanx of media. "I hope I don't change."

Lottery win caps a life spent serving others. B4.

Williams took away a check for $117,600,088, a lump-sum payment after federal and state taxes on her Mega Millions jackpot. She chose the lump sum of $168 million instead of annual payments of $11.3 million for 26 years.

Flanked by two lawyers, the divorced mother of three and grandmother of eight said she planned to spend the money on her family, golf lessons, and travel. Where she would go first, a breathless and apparently stunned Williams said, she didn't know.

The Bush-Lay Letters

07.08.04 (1:47 pm)   [edit]
[b]Correspondence suggests chummy President-Enron boss relationship [/b]

JULY 8--With the FBI slapping handcuffs on Kenneth Lay this morning, let's take a stroll down memory lane, when the disgraced former Enron boss wasn't under indictment and had a cozy pen pal relationship with George W. Bush. Below you'll find an assortment of correspondence exchanged during the years Bush was governor of Texas and Lay ran the Houston-based energy giant. The letters, released by the Texas state archives in response to Freedom of Information requests, touch on personal matters like Bush's knee surgery, Christmas gifts, birthday greetings, and even a Lay heads-up regarding a Thomas Friedman story about globalization. Enron, in case anyone forgot, was Bush's biggest Lone Star political contributor.

Bangor gays reflect 20 years after murder of Charles O. Howard

07.08.04 (5:19 am)   [edit]
Twenty years after three teenagers gay-bashed and murdered Charles O. Howard in Bangor, Maine, gays and lesbians say they feel safer in Bangor. Kind of. "I think I'm safe 99 percent of the time," said Dan Williams, a gay man who lives in Bangor. "Do I still look for an escape route when I'm about to walk through a group of people on the sidewalk? Of course." Hmm, yes. Perfectly safe.
