The Republican National Convention opened Monday with its LGBT wing embroiled in a heated battle over what it sees as an extreme right wing takeover of the GOP.

In its first order of business Monday convention delegates approved a conservative platform that endorses an amendment to the Constitution to prevent gay couples from any form of recognition and calls for curbs on federal judges from ruling in cases involving gay marriage or domestic partnerships.

"The Republican Party Platform is an outrageous insult to all of us and our families," said Log Cabin Republicans executive director Patrick Guerriero.

"The platform not only calls for an anti-family Constitutional amendment, but it also opposes civil unions and domestic partnerships. While thousands of courageous gay and lesbian Americans are fighting to win the war on terror, the platform also says, 'Homosexuality is incompatible with military service.'"

Gay Republicans are finding it increasingly difficult to find common ground in the party of Lincoln, and will withhold endorsing George W. Bush this week.

New York City- As Republicans gather in New York City for the start of the GOP National Convention the nation's oldest gay rights group released a summary of the Bush administration's record on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues, calling the Bush-Cheney team "the most anti-gay administration in the history of the gay rights movement."

DALLAS (AP) - Former Texas House Speaker Ben Barnes said he is ``more ashamed at myself than I've ever been'' because he helped President Bush and the sons of other wealthy families get into the Texas National Guard so they could avoid serving in Vietnam.

``I got a young man named George W. Bush into the National Guard ... and I'm not necessarily proud of that, but I did it,'' Barnes, a Democrat, said in a video clip recorded May 27 before a group of John Kerry supporters in Austin.

Three months after the Alabama Legislature failed to send a constitutional amendment banning gay marriages to voters, the Alabama Christian Coalition wants state lawmakers to try it again. Lord Carey, the former Archbishop of Canterbury, will provoke a fresh storm over homosexuality in the Anglican/Episcopal Church next month by blessing hundreds of Americans who are boycotting their pro-gay bishop. Telegraph

Two Massachusetts Internet entrepreneurs have started SupportEquality.org as a way to attract donations from gay rights advocates across the country and use them to support pro-gay marriage candidates in Massachusetts who are running in tight races. "What we recognized is that the Internet is a phenomenal way to tap both givers from across the country and the thousands of people who can give small donations that can add up to large amounts," says co-founder Thomas Gerace. The 200 state senators and representatives elected this fall determine whether a constitutional ban on gay marriage goes on the statewide ballot in November 2006.

Gay Republicans seek "Unity Plank" at GOP convention
Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director Patrick Guerriero called for the GOP to adopt a "Party Unity Plank" that says that Republicans can agree to disagree on gay rights and abortion. The proposed platform plank calls on the party to "recognize and respect Republicans of good faith," especially those who disagree with the party's platform on "abortion, family planning, and gay and lesbian issues." It seems unlikely to be adopted at the convention, which starts in a little over a week. Gay D.C. Councilmember David Catania said even if it were, it would be like "putting lipstick on a pig."

Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry is proposing a fund to hire 100,000 new firefighters across America and wants to name the fund after Father Mychal Judge, the gay chaplain to the New York City Fire Department who died administering last rights to a fallen comrade on 9-11. Kerry announced the plan in a speech before the International Association of Fire Fighters Convention in Boston.

Out In The Park is a Gay Day event organized by a nonprofit organization. We are a dedicated group of unity-minded people that are interested in creating events that are fun, all-ages, social opportunities for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Intersex and Allies community to Get OUT with their friends and family.

The events that we plan and organize are warm-up events to National Coming Out Day on October 11th. Our first event, Out In The Park, was held on Saturday, September 27, 1997, at what was then known as Riverside Park (now Six Flags New England). The focus of the events we plan and organize, is to foster a sense of pride, dignity and unity among the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning and intersex community and their allies through social and cultural events to promote diversity, visibility, awareness and acceptance throughout the New England region.

Since 1997, we have continued to plan and organize not only a Gay Day at Six Flags New England, but based on attendees' requests, have added other "Gay Days" at a variety of locations throughout the New England area. All of these events are held in public venues and are open to the public. The emphasis is always on fun, all-ages, social events.

In 2004, Out In The Park will celebrate it's 8th year as THE Gay Day in New England, and the 2nd year as the OFFICIAL Gay Day at Six Flags New England! Only this year, we begin to take Out In The Park to a whole new level, as we hold our first festival in the 10 acre River's Edge Picnic Grove, with GLBT entertainers and vendors from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. In what is likely to be a major embarrassment for President Bush, his twin daughters have reportedly agreed to attend a gay wedding in nearby Laytonsville, Maryland.

The wedding is that of their beautician Erwin Gomez and his partner James Packard. Although not recognized by law, the two, who also wed in San Francisco when it was legal there, will exchange vows and rings and hold a reception for friends at their Laytonsville home.

Gomez works at the Elizabeth Arden shop in Chevy Chase.

The New York Daily News reports that Gomez gave the First Daughters invitations to next month's affair when the girls came in for their weekly eyebrow waxing and they accepted.

"I gave them the party invitation, and they said, 'That sounds great, we'd love to come - it sounds like a lot of fun,'" Gomez told the News.

"The way they reacted, they were very open-minded."

Jenna and Barbara Bush may be looking forward to the nuptials but Dad may have something to say. The President has been one of the main opponents of same-sex marriage. (story)

Despite his admiration for the twins, Gomez has little time for the President or his views on gay marriage.

"I think it's wrong - he has no right to touch that," he told the News. "He's trying to change the freedom of America. ... History is repeating itself, just like blacks and Jews were discriminated against."

I'm interrupting John Kerry's dispatches from the road to tell you about something that will make you angry, but which is important for you to hear..

We knew it was coming: the Bush campaign and several allied right-wing groups are using August to launch a vicious smear attack against John Kerry. They think we're vulnerable this month because while George Bush is still able to raise money for attack ads, Kerry had to stop fundraising at the Democratic convention last week. They're taking this opportunity go for the jugular.

The worst of the current wave of attacks is coming from a Republican-funded group called "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth." (I'll call them by a more accurate name: Swift Boat Veterans for Bush.) The group is led by a longtime Republican operative and financed by GOP contributors with strong tries to President George W. Bush. Their function in the overall Republican strategy is this: tear down John Kerry, since Bush has no record or vision to run on.

The Swift Boat ad is full of lies. Thirteen men who never served with John Kerry lie about knowing him and viciously attack his record. It is a new low for the Republicans.

Every time they have attacked Kerry like this, it has only made Democrats stronger. When they ran dishonest attack ads (like the unbelievable new one on the air right now), thousands of new supporters gave the resources needed to fight back on the airwaves.

Now that the general election has begun, they're hoping things are different. They're going to be sorely disappointed, because we are not alone. The Democratic National Committee is well prepared to take on this fight.

And therefore I'm asking you: everything you did for our campaign, please do now for our Democratic Party. Give them the resources they need to fight against these right-wing attacks:

PHILADELPHIA – Yesterday, five Christians with the Philadelphia-based Repent America were ejected from the 2nd annual Philadelphia Philles' Gay Day after homosexuals and homosexual advocates began to incite a riot by pulling down the Christian's Gospel banner, which read, “HOMOSEXUALITY IS SIN, CHRIST CAN SET YOU FREE.”

Tapes of Marilyn Monroe's therapy sessions reveal she had an affair with Joan Crawford but didn't enjoy it too much. Author Matthew Smith, who is writing a book on Monroe, said: "She described an intimate moment in some detail and told how she and Joan had sex." In the tapes Monroe says, "I told her straight out I didn't much enjoy doing it with a woman. After I turned her down she got spiteful." She didn't think much of Joe DiMaggio in bed, either.

Actress Sharon Stone says a puritanical streak running through America created by President Bush prevented her from kissing Halle Berry in the newly released film "Catwoman."

Stone, 46, wanted to enjoy a lesbian moment with her co-star, but the current conservative climate in the country just wouldn't allow it, she concluded, according to Ireland Online.

"Halle's so beautiful and I wanted to kiss her. I said, 'How can you have us in the movie and not have us kiss? That's such a waste,'" said Stone.

"That's what you get for having George Bush as president."

Just got back from Freeport Maine camping with my partner and Mom and Dad, in law. It was fun, especially the outlet bargains. ;O) Has anyone ever seen the "Dessert of Maine"? Is that for real? My opinion is that it is a total crock and scam but my dad-in-law thinks it truly is a natural phenomenom. Does anyone know?

Well the DNC is over and life can get back to normal. Wow, the media REALLY made us think the end of world would happen if the democrats came here ey? Reminded me of the Y2K scare. No wonder the older I get the less I worry about any of the crap they say on the news.
